I have been reading English novels in the original led
by Professor Mr.Mikuni at Yokohama foreign college.
He teaches us to read Nobel laureate Isaac B. Singer , W. Faulkner
and Irwin Shaw, Bernard Malamud and so on.
We have mainly read I. B. Singer's books at the reading circle. He was born in Warsaw Poland. His father was a Rabbi and his mother was from Rabbi's family. He wrote his novels in Yiddish ,which was used by Jews in East Europe.
He was awarded Nobel prize in 1978.
I have read his novels 'A Little Boy in search of God', ' Shot Friday and Other Stories', 'A Day of Pleasure' and 'A friend of Kafka'. Now we are reading ' A young Man in Search of Love'.
' A Friend of Kafka' is one of my favorite books, I would say.
I think his books are difficult to understand his thought as we should be
required a variety of knowledge with
Old Testament,Jewishness, and the philosophy of kant, Spinoza etc, etc.
