America is a multiracial country where we can hear an international English. They can freely communicate with native speaker of English. On the other hand, Japan has been believed a homogeneous nation. Nowadays no one believes it. It is wrong.
By the way, I was said by a Dutch who can fluently speak English that your English sounded just like Scottish English. It proves that I speak English with a strong Japanese accent. I may speak English dialects.
There are two kinds of English, ' Pidgeon' and 'Creole'.
According to the dictionary Longman, 'Pidgeon English ' is either not very good or is mixed with the words or
grammar of another languages.
'Creole English' is a combination of a European language and one or more
other languages.
However, I have learned in San Francisco that 'Creole' is sophisticated
more than 'Pidgeon'.
Our teacher defines 'Creole' is a language used as the main language in
the community in which it is spoken, mainly those who settled in the West
India or Spanish America. They were originally French settlers in the southern
states of the USA.
Mr. M. Muramatu who is the pioneer of simultaneous interpreter in Japan said Japanese cannot speak English as well as native speakers of English. He added that natives speak English with a dialect like President J.Bush.
When it comes to discussing Japanese dialects, it is necessary to point out two phases of it. One is the word itself, the other is the intonation or accent. Unfortunately, I cannot pronounce the intonation in this page.
Anyway dialects varied from prefecture to prefecture before World War 2. 'Hyojungo', standardized Japanese was promoted by the government and widely spread owing to radio and ,later, to TV.
Tokyo-ben is said to be equaled standard Japanese but it has its own distinct dialect in Tukiji, Asakusa district.
