The Asahi news paper dated 16. July 19, 2004. featured 'Overcome the under dogs' and introduced a best-seller book 'Howling Bay of an Underdog' written by Junko Sakai, which topic is in the news. She describes a woman who is single ,over 30 years old and has no children is named a howling bay of an underdog.
On the other hand, an essayist Minori Kitahara comments that most of underdogs keep silent against this opinion. Even feminists will not participate in this dispute. She rather selects a stray-dog. Of course she realizes she is not called happy. But at least she is free from men due to an ownerless dog.
I consider that the institution of marriage is relevant or outdated to our time. I think the notion of marriage is gradually changing in proportion to the rise of woman power. Accordingly the cohabitation recently is common in Japan, which is probably not special in Europe. Further more , a doctor who was a professor at Keio university advised us that we might as well marry twice in life as the span of the life has prolonged. This idea is reasonable nowadays, I would say.
In addition, 'Parasite Single' who depends on parents after graduated from school and earned a lot of money is breeding in Japan. It is said that this is typical in Japan. They are enjoying their life freely. They are also called 'Single nobility'.
Accordingly, 'Ohitori-sama' (it means single) named by late journalist
Kumiko Iwashita is booming.
'Ohitori-sama' supports oneself and enjoys a life. It is reported that 'Ohitori-sama' who enjoys going to movies,
theaters, restaurants, traveling and so on is seemingly increasing.
Single used to be considered lonely and have minus image but this
has transferred to be cool and independent.
This happening involving young and old widely spreads to men, that originally
started from women.
